Student and Teacher Learner Response Systems – An Equal Opportunity to Learn
How it works?
- Each student has their own individual response device.
- Questions are asked through a variety of formats.
- Students respond using their device by either voting or texting their responses to the class.
- Students can respond in full sentences but also numbers, symbols, maths equations, multiple choice, true/false, order sorting, Likert scales and more.
- Results are captured and displayed either anonymously or by name to the entire class.
+ Additional Benefit: Teachers and Parents can have their own device and interact as well during meetings
Experiencing equal opportunity, all students can interact and collaborate as EVERYONE participates:
- Whether they are normally quiet or talkative
- Whether they are high or low achievers
As a teacher / principal you can:
- Immediately see who does or does not understand
- Have Self-Paced Learning
- Test and get reports and results immediately and store them for later use
- Track Performance
- Review and see if you need to adjust your lessons quickly
- Have Q&A sessions and see what your student and teacher opinions are accounted for
The Influence on Learning
Professor John Hattie says 'effect sizes' are the best way of answering the question 'what has the greatest influence on student learning?'. An effect-size of 1.0 is typically associated with:
- Advancing learners' achievement by one year, or improving the rate of learning by 50%
- A two grade leap in grades, e.g. from a C to an A grade
- An effect size of 1.0 is clearly enormous! (It is defined as an increase of one standard deviation)

Hattie has made clear that 'feedback' includes telling students what they have done well (positive reinforcement), and what they need to do to improve (corrective work, targets etc), but it also includes clarifying goals.
This collection of feedback to support student learning can be done effortlessly and easily with the assistance of Learner Response Systems. Learner Response Systems are creating a revolution in education through devices offering unprecedented opportunities for student involvement AND assessment. Each learner response device gives individual students a voice while equipping teachers with a revolutionary tool for delivering dynamic lessons tailored to the immediate assessment of student performance.
