Overnight Apple announced a host of new resources and products available for our teachers to revolutionise their teaching experience. In addition to a new iPad, Apple have reinvigorated their core applications and created an entire new curriculum focus with Everyone Can Create and Schoolwork. Whether you are using iPads sparingly in a shared environment or have a dedicated 1:1 Program, its a very exciting time to be using iPad in the Classroom.

A new ‘Education’ iPad:

Apple have launched their refreshed Education iPad (iPad 6th Gen) including all the features we know and love with a few small changes that make a big difference.

  • Apple Pencil Support

Yes, Thats right, Apple’s base model iPad now support their award winning pressure sensitive Apple Pencil, now giving us the ability to draw, sketch, outline and annotate  across a myriad of applications.

 Changes to the iWork Suite

Apple now offers support for the Apple Pencil over Pages, Numbers & Keynote. Add drawings and annotation directly into Documents, Spreadsheets or Presentations.

Share documents to your students and allow live collaboration on the same document.

Smart Annotation; Allowing teachers to mark up papers live while students make notes. (Coming Soon)

 

iBooks Author on iPad

iBooks Author is now built into Pages on iPad.

Create and share fully interactive iBooks on iPad. Use existing content allow your students to create their own from scratch.

Collaboration features allow a group of students to be working on a single project or book from multiple devices.

iBooks Author provides access to a library of prebuilt iBook styles to inspire creativity and spark imagination.

 

Schoolwork (Coming Soon)

Schoolwork is a brand new, free Apple app, which allows Teachers to manage student work. It provides a simple effective way to provide handouts, homework, group projects or even just a reminder to your class.

Set assignments, due dates dates and other notifications to update and keep track of your students work.

Schoolwork allows the ability to set specific app based activities and send them to students, navigating them directly to the module and reporting on their progress.

Schoolwork allows the Teacher to see a individual or class overview of the progress on a project, broken down into work submitted, time spent in applications and an overall percentage of work completed.

Everyone Can Create

Similarly to Apple’s Everyone Can Code program released late 2016, Everyone Can Create is a brand new curriculum focus for Apple, specialising in Music, Video, Photography and Drawing. For now Apple have updated their core iLife Applications like Garageband, iMovie, Clips and Photos with new content for students, with a full release of teaching resources and iBooks available later in the year.

Apple Teacher is a program for any Educator willing to take their Apple Professional Development into their own hands. Sign up for a free account and get in-depth lessons, examples and resources enabling you to implement technology in more ways across more curriculum.

 

Further Augmented Reality Support

Apple has dedicated more resources to support Augmented Reality within our Classroom and providing further tools to Developers in the field.

Boulevard – Bringing countless Museums and Art Collections to life, Boulevard allows your students to take a field trip to the British Museum and see the Rosetta Stone without even leaving their classroom.

Free Rivers – Free Rivers allows Students to place a full landscape of a biome within their classroom interact with it in astonishing ways. Explore the environmental impact of damming a river or reducing rainfall.

Froggepedia – Experience biology in a completely different way. Froggepedia allows your students to explore the inner workings of a frogs muscular, cardio vascular and digestive systems and dissect it all without the mess, cleanup or safety precautions.

Apple has released a AR Swift Module within their Everyone Can Code Program so now Students can even learn how to code with Augmented Reality.
